Integrative, Psychospiritual Psychotherapy

True healing results when we establish a compassionate relationship with our selves. If our inner world is one of self-criticism, self-doubt and other alienating influences, most likely our outer relationships will reflect this pattern. Self- Relations psychotherapy encourages a supportive relationship with the neglected parts of one’s self for we need to experience a caring, nurturing, empowering relationship within ourselves in order to create deeply meaningful relationships with others. Successful psychotherapy is not "bandade therapy" as prescribed by managed health care models. Healing is about human development and transforming your life.

Good psychotherapy includes recognition of cognitive, emotional, somatic, archetypal and spiritual selves.  I have worked in a variety of situations; for example, I have treated persons experiencing normal life issues, victims of sexual abuse and relational violence. I have also been trained in mind-body healing and processes that facilitate spiritual awakening. I write, speak, lead workshops and groups and have spoken on international panels regarding psychospiritual healing and the body-mind relationship. Several of my articles and book chapters in this area have been or are being published. My work as an adjunct professor at Chapman University, National University, the Union Institute and University’s doctoral program and Vermont College’s on-line master’s program has given me the opportunity to instruct future marriage and family therapists and doctors on the use of positive psychotherapies. This also means I am well-grounded in both traditional and non-traditional psychotherapies.

I help people transform their lives. The way I've lived my own life has enabled me to acquire a vast amount of knowledge and experience in the area of psychology and spirituality, the most important elements of your life.  My primary experiential and educational training includes Steve Gilligan's Self Relations Psychotherapy and Ericksonian Hypnosis along with decades of training in healing processes from the World's Religious traditions, for example, breath and mantric sound practices and other mind-body healing practices. I also have certifications, training and expertise in the following practices:

  • Self Relations Psychotherapy
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Couples Therapy
  • Breath Therapy
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)
  • Women’s Groups
  • Spiritual Development
  • Professional Coaching

Often my therapy leads to positive life style changes. My clients may return to school and/or find new relationships and shift to more meaningful careers. Most importantly, they develop a new and positive approach to life and to themselves.

Traditional psychotherapy is limited because it fails to address the mind-body relationship and spirituality. Spirituality cannot be ignored in the healing process, for it is the foundation - the impetus of our lives. For this reason, many seekers turn to alternative therapies. Through my personal healing process and decades of working with others, I have learned that it is important to recognize that psychotherapy, spiritual practices and alternative healing compliment one another for each contributes to our wholeness.

This dedication is also evidenced in my writings: Editor/co-author of Modern Psychology and Ancient Wisdom: Psychological Healing Practices from the World's Religious Traditions (Haworth Press, 2003), co-editor/co-author of The Psychospiritual Clinician’s Handbook: Alternative Methods for Understanding and Treating Mental Disorders (Haworth Press, March 2005) and have contributed chapters to other books on psychospiritual and mind-body healing.
